A bit of history |
When our father, Richard Simon was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1995, our family experienced many emotions--we were in denial, confused, angry, and didn’t know where to turn. The one thing we did know was that we weren’t going to place Dad in a nursing home, but weren’t sure how to keep him safe and comfortable at home. We were in need of guidance, education, a professional to help us through the hard times, but had difficulty finding services in the community.
Our father was a great philanthropist and donated to many charitable organizations. When he passed away in 2005, we as his children wanted to give back to the community to help other families plagued with this devastating disease.
We decided to partner with Seashore Gardens, as they have provided services focused on the elderly for many decades. In 2006 we opened the doors to the Richard Simon Center for Alzheimer’s. Our goal as a family was to provide the education and counseling services to people in the community affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia related disorders.
To this day we know that the Center has helped many families. We take pride in knowing that we are helping to provide a service, free of charge that gives families a place to turn.
